Contributor Agreement

This page contains the written terms that apply when you contribute to NYC Business Pulse. By submitting an application via /founding-contributors/ you acknowledge having read these terms.

1. Content rights

All content you publish here is released under Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0). This means:

  • Copyright stays with the contributor. We get publishing rights only.
  • Contributors may republish content elsewhere (Substack, Medium, personal site, etc.).
  • Third parties may quote with attribution.
  • If the agreement ends, content remains indexed; the contributor may request takedown within 30 days.

2. Revenue share formula

Tier 1 — Founding Contributor (20%)

20% share on revenue generated by the contributor’s articles, from these channels:

  • Sponsored content: Contributor-written sponsored post → 20% (30% if contributor sourced the sponsor)
  • Affiliate revenue: Reservation / purchase commission from links in the article → 20%
  • Consulting referral: Consulting engagement that originated from contributor → 20% (recurring, full duration)
  • Featured listing sales: Direct-outreach listing sales by contributor → 25%

Tier 2 — Early Contributor (10%)

Same channels, 10% share. Plus $25 fixed bonus on any 1,000+ pageview article.

Tier 3 — Open Contributor

$10 fixed bonus on any 10,000+ pageview article. 30% commission on sponsored posts you source.

3. Equity (Tier 1 only)

If the publication is ever sold or takes investment, Tier 1 founding contributors share:

  • 0.5% per vertical (5 verticals × 0.5% = 2.5% total founding pool)
  • Stake conditional on remaining active 1+ year in the same vertical
  • Pro-rata payout (no time-based vesting; tied to position retention)
  • Cash or stock at contributor’s election upon acquisition

4. Exit terms

  • Contributors may leave with 30-day notice
  • Tier 2/3 payments stop on departure
  • Tier 1 equity persists per the vesting terms above
  • Content may be removed at contributor’s request, or remain indexed
  • If we terminate the agreement: no kill fee, but unpaid content rights revert to contributor

5. Editorial standards compliance

Contributors must follow the rules on Editorial Standards. Repeated violations (plagiarism, fabrication, undisclosed conflict of interest) terminate the agreement immediately.

6. Tax and legal responsibility

  • Contributors work as independent contractors (W-9 / 1099 / Turkish income tax).
  • Tax liability is the contributor’s.
  • Consult a fiscal advisor with questions.

7. Dispute resolution

Disputes are first addressed through dialog. If unresolved:

  • NYC site contributors: New York State courts
  • TR site contributors: Republic of Turkey courts (Manisa or İzmir)

8. Agreement updates

If we update this agreement:

  • All active contributors get 30 days’ email notice in advance
  • Existing contributors are not forced to accept new terms; they may continue under the previous version
  • New contributors are bound by the current version
